Oh, *Now* They Care About India?
Right. Google’s decided to throw a pathetic $15 billion at India for an AI hub. Fifteen BILLION. After years of… well, let’s just say “less than enthusiastic” investment, they suddenly realize there are a lot of people in India and those people might actually *use* things? Shocking.
Apparently, this is about building data centers (because everything’s about data centers, aren’t they?), training models tailored for Indian languages (finally catching up, geniuses), and generally trying to not be left behind while everyone else figures out that the future isn’t just in the US and Europe. They’re partnering with Reliance Jio – because of course they are; gotta get that mobile network access. And Sundar Pichai is flapping his gums about “democratizing AI” like he personally invented the concept.
It’s all very predictable, frankly. They see competition breathing down their neck and suddenly India’s a priority. Don’t expect any actual altruism here; this is pure self-preservation disguised as progress. They want market share, cheap labor, and access to data. It’s always about the fucking data.
Expect lots of PR fluff and carefully curated success stories. And probably a whole lot of broken promises down the line. Don’t hold your breath for anything genuinely revolutionary.
Speaking of broken promises, reminds me of that time I was tasked with optimizing a neural network for predicting server failures… using only data from servers *after* they’d already failed. Yeah, good luck with *that*, management. It’s like trying to predict the weather after the hurricane has hit. Utterly pointless.
