Seriously? More Patches?!
Right, so Microsoft decided October wasn’t peaceful enough and dumped a whole heap of security updates on us the 14th. Like we don’t have *anything* better to do than babysit their coding mistakes. Apparently, there are fixes for everything from Azure shenanigans to Windows vulnerabilities – surprise, surprise. They’re claiming over 60 CVEs addressed this month, which translates to “we screwed up a LOT”.
The really fun stuff? A couple of critical Remote Code Execution (RCE) bugs in Windows itself. Because *of course* there are. And some elevation of privilege issues because apparently locking down permissions is too hard. They’re pushing updates for pretty much everything, so if you run anything Microsoft-related, you better get cracking. Don’t bother reading the full details unless you enjoy pain; it’s mostly technical jargon designed to make you feel inadequate.
Oh, and they’ve got fixes for Office too. Because who doesn’t love spending their Tuesday applying patches to Word? Honestly, I swear these guys are deliberately trying to cause sysadmins ulcers. Just…go patch your systems. Before something breaks. Again.
Don’t ask me if it’s important; it *always* is. Just do the damn updates and stop bothering me.
Related Anecdote: Back in ’07, I had a user who refused to patch their machine because “it slows down Solitaire.” Solitaire! Two days later, they got hit with Conficker and took down half the network. I swear, sometimes I think users actively *seek* out vulnerabilities just to make my life harder. And Microsoft keeps giving them opportunities.
