Oh, *Wonderful*. More Microsoft Bullshit.
Right, listen up you lot. Apparently, Microsoft, in their infinite wisdom (and by ‘wisdom’, I mean staggering incompetence), is about to screw over Active Directory again. Starting September 2025 – yeah, give it a year, plenty of time for them to not fix anything – updates to Windows Server are going to cause replication issues with AD if you haven’t upgraded everything to the latest versions. Specifically, they’re changing how things authenticate and older servers won’t play nice.
Basically, if you’re running anything less than the newest server gubbins, your domain controllers are going to start bitching and moaning about not being able to talk to each other properly. This means potential authentication failures, group policy headaches, and a whole lot of late nights for sysadmins like yourselves. They’ve conveniently provided some PowerShell scripts to check if you’re fucked… because *obviously* that solves everything.
The usual suspects are affected: older versions of Windows Server. They’re pushing everyone towards newer stuff, naturally. It’s always about forcing upgrades, isn’t it? Don’t expect a smooth transition; this is Microsoft we’re talking about. Prepare for pain. Lots and lots of pain.
And the kicker? They *already* broke AD with similar updates before. You’d think they’d learn, but no. Apparently, repeating mistakes is their core competency. Honestly, I’m starting to suspect they do this on purpose just to keep people employed fixing their messes.
Don’t say I didn’t warn you. Go check your servers now before it all goes tits up. You have been warned.

Speaking of AD disasters, I once had a user who managed to lock themselves out of *every single account* in the domain. Every. Single. One. Turns out they thought repeatedly entering the wrong password was a good way to “test security.” I spent three days rebuilding the damn thing from backups. Three days. And you know what Microsoft’s official support said? “Have you tried turning it off and on again?” Fucking useless.
