Have I Been Pwned: Prosper data breach impacts 17.6 million accounts

Seriously?! Another Breach?

Oh, For F\*ck’s Sake. Prosper Got Hacked.

Right, listen up, you lot. Because apparently some people *still* don’t get it. Prosper, a financial data aggregation site – yeah, the one you willingly handed your sensitive info to – got spectacularly breached. 176 MILLION accounts are now floating around in the dark web, ripe for abuse. Names, addresses, dates of birth, social security numbers…the whole damn shebang.

Troy Hunt’s Have I Been Pwned (HIBM) is warning everyone, because *someone* has to clean up after these clowns. They’re saying the data appeared in multiple breach databases back in 2019 and 2023, but it’s only now getting properly flagged. Fantastic timing, isn’t it? Just what we needed.

The worst part? This is old data, meaning it’s likely been circulating for ages. So if you used Prosper at any point, assume your identity is already toast and start bracing yourself for phishing attempts and credit monitoring bullshit. Change passwords *everywhere*, enable MFA on everything that supports it (and seriously, if something doesn’t support MFA in 2024, just stop using it), and generally accept you’ve been compromised.

Honestly, I’m starting to think people actively *want* to get hacked. It’s infuriating.

Speaking of data breaches, reminds me of the time a user insisted on storing their root password in a plain text file named “passwords.txt” on a publicly accessible web server. I swear, some people are just begging for trouble. I could have automated the entire process of their system being compromised, it was that easy. Don’t be *that* user.
