New DShield Support Slack, (Thu, Oct 16th)

Ugh. Another Slack Channel.

Seriously? A *New* Slack Channel?!

Right, so the SANS ISC DShield folks – bless their hearts, or whatever – have launched a new Slack channel for support. Apparently, email and forums weren’t enough of a time sink for them, or us, I guess. It’s for questions about DShield alerts, file analysis, and general “how do I not screw this up” stuff.

They’re pushing it as faster response times. Faster response times to what? More panicked newbies asking how to tell a legit process from malware? Fantastic. Expect the usual deluge of “Is this a virus?” questions. They *do* have rules, so maybe, just maybe, it won’t be complete chaos. Probably will be though.

If you’re already using DShield and are constantly needing hand-holding, fine, join it. If you aren’t… well, good for you. You’re probably smarter than the average bear. Link is below if you *really* want to subject yourself to this.

Related Anecdote: Back in ’98, I had a user who called me at 3 AM because Windows asked him if he wanted to install “Internet Explorer.” He thought it was a virus trying to sneak onto his machine. I swear, some people shouldn’t be allowed near computers. This Slack channel is just going to breed more of them.
