Experian Gets Slapped with a $32 Million Fine for Hoarding Everyone’s Bloody Data
Well, well, well… look who got caught with their grubby little fingers in the data cookie jar again. Experian — yes, *that* bunch of data-hoarding bastards — just got their arses handed to them by the UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) for doing what they do best: collecting and selling personal data without people’s consent. Shocking, right? It’s almost like that’s their entire goddamn business model.
So here’s the deal. These corporate clowns were secretly compiling data from all sorts of sources — including the electoral register and other “open” data — then using it to pigeonhole people into categories for marketing. And get this: they didn’t actually bother to tell anyone they were doing it. Because, you know, why let transparency get in the way of a *multi-million pound bullshit data racket*?
The ICO wasn’t having any of it and finally said, “Enough of your shady crap,” and slapped them with a fine of £13.5 million (about $17 million USD). Oh, and that’s *after* Experian already took a hit of £20 million they were supposed to cough up from a previous privacy mess. That’s a grand total of about $32 million for their never-ending data dumpster fire.
Of course, Experian insists they did nothing wrong, probably while tripping over their own sanctimonious PR statements about “helping consumers.” Sure, because nothing says “help” like secretly mining and selling people’s private info like it’s a flash sale on personal identity.
In short — Experian’s been hoovering up personal data like a cocaine-snorting Roomba, and the UK finally gave them a proper financial spanking for it. Not that they’ll learn, mind you. They’ll probably just write it off as a “business expense for unethical crap.”

Reminds me of the time some idiot manager told me, “Data wants to be free.” I told him, “So does malware, you twat.” Then I changed his account password to ‘ImADataSlurpingMoron.’ Good times.
