FTC removes Lina Khan-era posts about AI risks and open source

FTC Cleans Up Its Own Digital Shitshow

Oh look, the FTC’s decided to do a little online housecleaning — or, more accurately, a digital rewrite of history. The agency just yanked a bunch of posts and blog entries from Lina Khan’s reign that talked about the scary boogeyman that is “AI risk” and the oh-so-terrifying concept of open source. Because clearly, when you’ve got a long and proud record of inconsistent enforcement and bureaucratic bullshit, the best move is to quietly flush the archives down the cyber-toilet.

Apparently, the official justification is some vague babble about “updating communications strategy” — corporate-speak for “we don’t like what the last person said, so we’re pretending it never happened.” So now any trace of that inconvenient AI criticism has gone poof, right down the digital memory hole. Good job, FTC. Bravo. Nothing screams credibility like scrubbing your own website as if it’s a teenager’s browser history after a long night of questionable searches.

Meanwhile, the open source community’s probably rolling their collective eyes while muttering, “What the actual fuck?” because — surprise — this looks way more about optics than substance. Everyone knows politicians and agencies love their publicity stunts, and when AI’s the hot topic, the FTC wants to look “neutral” instead of “paranoid.” So there you have it — history gets rewritten, the truth gets blurry, and the poor bastards trying to keep track of federal AI policy are left sifting through a pile of PR-shaped dung.

Moral of the story? Bureaucracies love deleting shit when it’s inconvenient. If only my users would delete their ancient garbage data that way instead of hoarding it like digital squirrels.

Once had a user who tried to “delete evidence” of accidentally dropping a database by renaming it “temp_old” and hoping no one noticed. Guess what — we noticed. Twice. Some people never learn.
