Meta’s New “Anti-Scam” Tools – Because Bandaids Fix Bullet Holes

So, apparently the geniuses at Meta have decided to slap some shiny new “anti-scam” gizmos onto WhatsApp and Messenger, because nothing says “we care” like pretending you’re not the breeding ground for every dipshit scammer on the planet. They’re rolling out this so-called “Safety Center” and throwing in some “Fraud Support Hub” nonsense—basically a glorified help page dressed up like it actually does something useful.

The whole point? To “educate” users about scams. Because apparently, the same people who click links from “Prince Bongo of Nigeria” need a tutorial on common sense. They’re also partnering with banks and financial watchdogs to create “defense against fraud.” Yeah, because the last time tech companies “partnered” with anyone, it ended in a privacy apocalypse.

Of course, the corporate PR drones are chanting the usual crap about “enhancing user trust,” like that hasn’t been dead and buried since Facebook started selling your soul to the highest bidder. Let’s not even start with their “AI-driven detection,” which probably involves some half-baked algorithm that flags your grandma’s birthday message as a phishing attempt while real scammers host conference calls from their yachts.

Long story short: Meta says it’s saving us from scams, while probably using the same fucking data to “enhance user experience” (read: sell you more shit). Good luck trusting that.

Signoff: Reminds me of the time I told a junior tech to “educate users” about phishing—they sent out a link to a fake phishing page and half the office typed their passwords in. I laughed so hard I nearly rebooted the entire server room.
