Pinterest CEO touts open source AI: ‘tremendous performance’ with reduced costs

Pinterest’s CEO Thinks Open Source AI Is the Second Coming — What a Bloody Surprise

So apparently, the big brains over at Pinterest have suddenly “discovered” that open source AI is cheap as hell and actually performs like a caffeinated intern on double pay. The CEO, Bill Ready, is out there patting himself on the back, bragging about how their shiny new open source AI models are cranking through user data faster than a sysadmin through free beer, all while slashing costs. Groundbreaking shit, right? Who could’ve guessed that *not* paying insane license fees to the big AI monopolies might actually save money? Truly a revelation worthy of an overpaid keynote speech.

Anyway, he’s talking about “tremendous performance” and “reduced costs” like he just reinvented the bloody wheel, while the rest of us in the trenches are nodding, muttering, “No shit, Sherlock.” Pinterest is using open source frameworks to haul more personalized garbage onto your feed without it costing them a kidney in compute expenses. And of course, now that they’ve realized it doesn’t explode, they’re evangelizing the ever-loving crap out of it to make themselves look visionary instead of simply late to the goddamn party.

End result: Pinterest gets faster, cheaper, and more “AI-driven,” while users keep scrolling through the same endless feed of pumpkin spice recipes and decor ideas nobody asked for. Meanwhile, the CEO gets his halo polished for championing the open source cause — when really, he’s just figured out how to save a pile of cash while looking innovative as hell.

Reminds me of the time some genius manager told me to “discover cost savings in IT” — so I turned off his laptop charger. Saved 65 watts instantly. He didn’t appreciate the efficiency report, but damn if I didn’t meet my KPI.
