Remember, Remember the Bloody Chaos of the Fifth of November

Oh for fuck’s sake, it’s that time of year again — the anniversary of script kiddies and wannabe hacktivists playing “cyber revolution” because they saw some guy in a mask once and thought it looked cool. Cisco Talos’ article reminds us that, every goddamn November 5th, the internet creaks under the weight of pointless DDoS crap, defacements, and data dumps from self-proclaimed “freedom fighters” who couldn’t exploit their way out of a WordPress install if their mum’s Wi-Fi depended on it.

The Talos crew basically says: “Yeah, there’s chatter, there’s noise, there’s attention-seekers waving their digital pitchforks — but it’s mostly smoke and no bloody fire.” They point out how these clowns — anyone from Anonymous leftovers to random keyboard warriors — love to coordinate attacks around this date, but nine times out of ten it’s just recycled leaks, lame disruptions, and whiny slogans about justice and oppression typed from the comfort of their mum’s basement.

Talos also gives props to defenders who keep their systems patched, networks locked down, and incident response ready, because unlike the self-congratulatory dipshits throwing packets around, the professionals actually have to clean up the digital diarrhea that results. So yeah, remember, remember — not because you should join in the chaos, but because some numb-nut will inevitably try to be a “hacktivist hero” and cause trouble, and you’ll be the poor sod on call dealing with it.

So, moral of the story? Stay paranoid, patch your bloody systems, and maybe don’t treat November 5th like a cyberpunk cosplay day.

Reminds me of that one time some clown thought he’d “liberate” our network by running a DDoS from his Raspberry Pi. Cute little bastard forgot our firewalls bite back — we traced him faster than he could say “V for Vendetta”. Poor sod’s connection went down harder than his ego. Bloody amateurs.
