Lost iPhone? Don’t fall for phishing texts saying it was found

Lost iPhone Scams: Because Apparently We Needed More Idiots on the Internet

Right, listen up you magnificent digital morons. Some sneaky bastards have found a new way to make your already miserable lives worse. It’s called the “Your iPhone was found” scam. What a delight. Some genius crafted a sexy little phishing text that tells you your lost iPhone’s been found, complete with a “Find My iPhone” link that looks all official and shit. Naturally, people click that thing faster than a caffeine-addicted intern on a Red Bull bender.

Here’s the punchline: the link is about as real as your New Year’s fitness goals. It dumps you into some totally-not-Apple page where it begs for your Apple ID and password — and once you hand that over, congrats! You’ve basically gift-wrapped your digital soul for some faceless scammer sitting in a basement somewhere, who’ll then lock your device, raid your iCloud, and probably send you spam about crypto “opportunities.”

Apple, for their part, has been gently waving their hands screaming “Hey idiots, we’ll never text you like that!” But do the users listen? Of course not. Because why use common sense when you can be part of the next big phishing stat of the month? If it doesn’t come directly from your devices through the Find My app or the official iCloud site, then it’s bullshit. Pure, steaming bullshit.

So if you get one of these texts that says “Your iPhone was found, click this totally-safe link,” just delete the damn thing. Or better yet, reply with “Nice try, dipshit,” and go change your passwords anyway because at this point, I’m sure one of your other accounts is compromised too.

Anecdote: This reminds me of the time some moron in accounting clicked on an email promising a free iPad and ended up giving control of their workstation to a “tech support” scammer. Half the office went down, and I had to spend the weekend cleaning up the digital carnage. The idiot’s response? “It looked so real…” Yeah, Brenda, so does plastic surgery — doesn’t make it natural, does it?
