SANS Holiday Hack Challenge 2025 – Because Apparently Hackers Need Homework Too

Right, so the bloody SANS Holiday Hack Challenge 2025 is coming up again. The one time of year when infosec geeks collectively pretend it’s “fun” to spend their holidays reverse engineering some digital Christmas crap instead of having an actual life. This year they’re teasing us early — the bastards dropped the heads-up like it’s some early gift you can’t unwrap yet. Spoiler: it’s not a PS5, it’s a pile of packet captures and CTF puzzles waiting to eat your sleep schedule.

The article basically says: “Brace yourselves, nerds, this year’s Hack Challenge is inbound.” Expect the usual nonsense — crack some crypto, dig through traffic, chase elves through compromised servers, and then proclaim victory to your cats because no one else gives a shit. They promise *new challenges*, *training content*, and *some shiny theme*, but if you’ve been around long enough, you know the drill — it’s the same merry cybersecurity misery wrapped in tin foil and command line fire.

So yeah, clear your December schedule, stock up on caffeine, and prepare to question every life decision that led you here while debugging some frozen bastard’s malware-ridden gift shop. It’s going to be *glorious*… or at least gloriously painful.

Reminds me of the time a junior admin asked if he could join the challenge during “work hours.” I said sure — as soon as he finishes the “Restore the boss’s accidentally deleted mailbox” challenge. Funny thing, I never saw him sign up after that…
