Hacker claims to steal 2.3TB data from Italian rail group, Almavia

Yet Another Digital Dumpster Fire: Italian Rail Group Almaviva Gets Shafted

Well, well, well. Looks like the clowns over at Almaviva, that big Italian IT and rail infrastructure outfit, just got digitally pantsed. Some smug bastard of a hacker is bragging about lifting 23 terabytes—yeah, terabytes, not gigabytes, you corporate dimwits—of juicy data from their systems, including all sorts of internal crap and maybe even sensitive national-level stuff. Because clearly, no one there has heard of “basic security hygiene”.

This glorious mess supposedly includes emails, documents, and project files tied to Italy’s rail networks and state clients. The hacker—claiming to be part of some “Ransomed” gang—dumped proof-of-theft screenshots like some deranged kid showing off Pokémon cards. Almaviva, naturally, says they’re “checking things out.” Translation: everyone’s running around screaming, unplugging servers, and praying the press doesn’t call again.

So while Italy’s trains are still trying to figure out how to run on time, their IT department is busy trying to figure out which moron clicked on the wrong email or left an admin password taped to the server rack. Meanwhile, the hacker’s probably sipping espresso somewhere, laughing his arse off. Another day in cybersecurity paradise, ladies and gents. Same circus, different monkeys.

Reminds me of the time some CEO told me to “just restore the system” after a ransomware hit… right after they’d stopped paying for backups to “save money.” Yeah, I restored it alright—restored their sense of pain.
