AI is too risky to insure, say people whose job is insuring risk

AI Is Too Bloody Risky to Insure — Because Apparently the Machines Might Screw Us All

So, in today’s episode of “we’ve completely lost the plot,” the tight-arsed insurance folks — you know, the ones whose actual *job* is literally to hedge bets on disaster — have decided that AI is just too damn risky to touch. That’s right, the professional worrywarts who happily insure everything from exploding Teslas to billionaire vanity rockets are suddenly clutching their pearls because the bloody robots might go rogue.

Apparently, these geniuses can’t figure out how the hell to calculate the odds of “AI going berserk and nuking your business.” Too many unknowns, too much chaos, and not enough data, they say. Well no shit — the entire tech industry’s been running on “move fast and oops we fucked it” since the ‘90s. You’d think actuaries would’ve noticed by now.

And surprise-sur-bloody-prise, the risk assessors are crying about lawsuits, accountability, and liability. If an AI writes some slanderous crap, or a self-driving car pancakes a pedestrian because it thought “road” meant “launchpad,” who’s on the hook? Nobody knows! The lawyers are sharpening their knives, the insurers are quaking in their spreadsheets, and the rest of us are just waiting for the inevitable “AI causes global outage, film at eleven” headline.

So yeah, the people whose entire existence revolves around monetizing danger are basically saying, “Nah, this tech’s too fucked, even for us.” Wonderful. We’ve invented something *too risky for the risk industry.* That’s a goddamn achievement.

Reminds me of the time I tried to get a warranty on a server that spontaneously combusted after a firmware “update.” The vendor told me they didn’t cover acts of God. I told them fair enough — because the idiot who coded that patch sure as hell wasn’t one.
