Three Bloody Years of ChatGPT – And the Internet Still Can’t Shut Up About It

Three goddamn years. That’s how long it’s been since OpenAI dropped ChatGPT on the unsuspecting internet, and the world collectively lost its ever-loving mind. Back in late 2022, some bright spark thought it’d be fun to make an AI that could chat like your overly talkative coworker on speed. Fast-forward to now, and the bastard’s everywhere—writing emails, passing exams, and probably composing your mom’s Facebook posts about how “AI is the future.”

The article bangs on about how it started as a “fun experiment” and ended up rewriting half the digital world’s workflows. Tech bros called it “revolutionary,” journalists called it “terrifying,” and students called it “a convenient way to cheat on essays.” OpenAI apparently didn’t expect the bloody explosion of users slamming their servers like a swarm of caffeinated locusts, but here we are—three years later, and the whole planet’s got at least one opinion and a hundred hot takes about this chatty pile of code.

Now it’s integrated into everything—search engines, operating systems, goddamn microwaves probably next—and OpenAI’s cashing checks faster than you can say “terms of service.” Meanwhile, developers everywhere are trying to clone it, outsmart it, or *not* get replaced by it. The piece waxes nostalgic about its “humble beginnings,” but please, this thing went from zero to world domination faster than a script kiddie with admin access.

So yeah, happy bloody birthday, ChatGPT. Three years of explaining the same stupid questions, dodging bad prompts, and helping humans sound slightly less incompetent in email threads. Truly touching. Can we get the cake? No? Fine. Probably have to generate that too.

Reminds me of the time some intern tried to “optimize” my script by deleting half the data directory without a backup. The screams could be heard from the next building. Same energy as unleashing a chat AI without thinking it’d take over the goddamn world.
