Freedom Mobile Screws Up—Customer Data Gets a Free Trip Down the Drain
Well, here we bloody go again. Freedom Mobile, the Canadian telco that *promised* to keep your data safe, has apparently developed a new hobby—leaking personal data like a cracked garden hose. Some bright spark over there managed to “detect unauthorized access” (translation: someone wandered in, rummaged around, and helped themselves to a buffet of customer info). Because, of course, securing sensitive customer data is optional these days, right?
So what juicy crap got slipped out? Potentially your name, address, phone number, email, and everything short of your damn DNA sample. They haven’t found evidence that financial data was accessed, but forgive me if I don’t leap up to bloody applaud. If history tells us anything, that “no financial data” line usually ages about as well as unrefrigerated milk.
Freedom Mobile says they’re *deeply sorry*—which is corporate for “our lawyers told us to appear human”—and have started contacting the happy victims. They promise strengthened security measures (read: patching the damn holes they should’ve taken care of years ago) and are investigating. Ah yes, the sacred corporate ritual of a “full investigation,” which usually ends with a shrug and some intern getting yelled at.
Meanwhile, customers get a masterclass in modern digital trust: you give your data, they lose your data, and you get a pat on the head and a free year of worry. Bloody brilliant, innit?

Reminds me of the time I told management their backup strategy was basically “hope and prayer”—and they called me “negative.” Funny how no one’s negative once the servers are on fire. Anyway, don’t give your data to muppets who couldn’t secure a sandwich in a paper bag.
