GISEC Global: The Bloody Circus of Cybersecurity Show-offs
Ah, GISEC Global — the so-called “Middle East & Africa’s largest cybersecurity event.” In other words, a massive geek convention where every vendor with a half-baked security product comes to pretend they’re saving the bloody internet, while attendees pretend they’re learning something instead of collecting useless swag and free pens.
So apparently, this majestic clusterfuck of firewalls and buzzwords is happening in Dubai (of course it bloody is), and they’re touting it as the “most impactful show for infosec professionals.” Yeah, impactful — mostly on your hangover, wallet, and patience. You’ve got everyone there: CISOs puffing their chests like overcaffeinated pigeons, vendors pitching snake oil solutions at Mach 10, and a hundred wannabe hackers trying to look mysterious in hoodies despite it being 38 degrees in the shade.
They’re bragging about “global speakers” and “groundbreaking research,” which roughly translates to “the same five cybersecurity clichés recycled with newer acronyms.” Let’s not forget the endless panel discussions where so-called “thought leaders” talk about threats evolving “faster than ever” — as if that wasn’t exactly what they said last bloody year. Oh, and there’ll be government delegates too, no doubt arguing whether blocking TikTok counts as national defense policy.
But hey, if you need to network with fellow insomniacs, justify your travel budget, or just want an excuse to skip work while pretending it’s “professional development,” then grab your badge and join the circus. Just remember, behind the neon lights and cyber-buzzwords lies the same old IT misery — the endless fight against stupidity armed with duct tape and hope.

Reminds me of that one time I had to attend a “digital transformation” summit, only to discover the keynote speaker’s laptop was running Windows XP and they needed me to “fix the Wi-Fi.” I unplugged the router, told them it was a quantum reset, and they bloody believed me.
