OpenAI, Anthropic, and Block Join New Linux Foundation Effort to Standardize the AI Agent Era — Because Apparently We Needed Another Bloody Committee

Oh, bloody wonderful — just what the world needed, another goddamn “collaborative initiative” to create some shiny new set of AI standards that nobody asked for and everyone will ignore until version 5.0 when it’s finally not completely broken. OpenAI, Anthropic, and Block have decided to join forces with the Linux Foundation on some grand crusade to establish a standard for AI agents — you know, those smug, over-engineered “virtual assistants” apparently smarter than your IT department (not exactly a high bar, mind you).

The whole point, allegedly, is to prevent the “Wild West” of AI — as if the current chaos wasn’t half the fun. They want interoperability, transparency, and accountability — the holy trinity of things that sound noble but end up buried under a heap of corporate politics and half-finished specs nobody maintains. Because when you jam a bunch of big tech companies into a standards group, you don’t get innovation — you get fifteen committees arguing about what color the damn progress bar should be.

So, OpenAI, Anthropic, Block, and a herd of others are all jumping into this Linux Foundation sandbox, patting themselves on the back about creating “open frameworks” and “community-driven ecosystems.” Translation: they’ll all smile for the press release, then quietly fight like rabid dogs over who controls the APIs. Meanwhile, every developer in the world will be stuck reading 700-page PDFs written by lawyers, just to get their bot to bloody compile.

But by all means, folks, rally around the new “AI Alliance for Standardization and Harmony” or whatever they call it this week. I’m sure it’ll definitely, absolutely not turn into another bureaucratic monstrosity fueled by marketing buzzwords and coffee-stained Slack threads.

Anyway, here’s the damn link before you think I made it up: https://techcrunch.com/2025/12/09/openai-anthropic-and-block-join-new-linux-foundation-effort-to-standardize-the-ai-agent-era/

Reminds me of the time someone in the office suggested we form a “working group” to standardize how we name log files. Three weeks later, we had nine naming conventions, two shouting matches, and one intern in tears. Standards my ass.
