ForumTroll Strikes Again – Because Apparently Nobody Learns
Oh bloody fantastic, the cyber-scum are at it again! So, some bright little bastards came up with a new phishing campaign called “ForumTroll” — because originality is deader than my social life. This time, they’re going after Russian scholars with fake emails pretending to be from the Russian eLibrary. Yeah, those poor brainiacs get a “hey, please check your publication status” email and – surprise, surprise – the link dumps them straight into a credential-stealing cesspit.
The malware-laden assholes behind this scam are craftier than your average Nigerian prince. They’ve spoofed domains, cloned the website, and sprinkled enough “official” bullshit to dupe even the most paranoid academic. Once the victims bite like hungry piranhas, ForumTroll nabs their login creds faster than you can say “why the fuck do people still click suspicious links?”
Oh, and because irony is delicious, these pricks are using compromised scholarly accounts to spread their bait even more – phishing by scholars, for scholars. It’s like an academic pyramid scheme of stupidity. The attack’s mainly been spotted targeting Russian research institutions, but let’s be honest – if you leave your brain at home, you could be next, comrade or not.
The take-home message? Don’t be a gullible idiot. If a supposedly “important” email wants you to log in somewhere right now or your career will implode, assume it’s a trap. Check the damn domain like an adult, use two-factor auth, and for fuck’s sake, stop clicking everything that moves.

Reminds me of that time I caught an intern entering their admin password into a fake “Microsoft update” popup because it looked official. Poor sod’s computer didn’t survive, but I did get a free laugh and an excuse to reimage his entire machine. And yes, I enjoyed every damn second of it.
