Italy tells Meta to suspend its policy that bans rival AI chatbots from WhatsApp

Italy Tells Meta to Cut the Crap and Stop Banning Rival AI Chatbots from WhatsApp

Oh joy, another day, another goddamn corporate tantrum. So apparently, Meta — you know, the digital overlord that thinks it owns half the internet — decided it was a brilliant idea to tell everyone, “Hey, you can’t use other AI chatbots on WhatsApp because only our precious bots count.” Like some jealous ex who can’t stand the thought of you texting someone else. Absolute bollocks.

Enter Italy, the bureaucratic yet strangely heroic pain in the ass, telling Meta to knock that shit off immediately. The Italian data watchdog basically said, “Oi, you can’t just ban other AI chatbots because you’re afraid someone else might make a product that doesn’t suck as hard as yours.” Meta tried to pretend this was all about “user safety” and “data privacy,” but come on, we all know it’s the usual “don’t let the competition breathe” power grab.

So now, Meta’s been told to suspend their lovely little anti-competition stunt while Italy’s privacy authority investigates whether this whole circus is even legal. Spoiler alert: it probably isn’t. Data regulators across Europe are sharpening their pitchforks, and it looks like someone at Meta’s legal department is going to have a very un-merry Christmas explaining why their “innovative” idea is just corporate greed wrapped in PR bullshit.

In summary: Meta bans rival AI chatbots from WhatsApp, Italy tells them to get stuffed, and we all get to enjoy some quality tech drama while the suits scramble to sound ethical. Same old crap, different logo.

Reminds me of the time a manager tried to ban me from using Linux because “Windows is the company standard.” So I installed Linux inside a Windows VM just to watch him short-circuit trying to understand it. Sometimes, you’ve got to fight stupidity with even more creative spite.
