Two “Cybersecurity Experts” Turn Out to Be Ransomware-Dropping Numpties
Well, strap in for another round of “security professionals behaving like total bloody idiots.” Two so-called U.S. cybersecurity experts — you know, the type that should be protecting systems rather than setting them on fire — have just pled guilty to pulling off ransomware attacks using the goddamn BlackCat/ALPHV strain. Yeah, those clowns apparently decided that the best way to make a quick buck wasn’t through a paycheck, but through digital extortion. Genius-level thinking there, lads. Fucking Einstein would be proud.
So let’s recap this glorious clusterfuck: instead of getting paid to test systems legally, these two geniuses decided to breach networks, deploy ransomware, and then shake down their victims for cash while pretending to be “incident response experts.” That’s right — they literally hacked people, caused chaos, and then charged them for “help” fixing it. That’s like setting someone’s house on fire and offering to sell them a bucket of water. Absolute wankery of the highest order.
According to the DOJ, these bright sparks did this between 2021 and 2023, using their “security skills” for all the wrong bloody reasons. The feds, unsurprisingly, were not amused. The pair now face several delightful years in prison, where hopefully their next “penetration test” involves a guy named Bubba. Can’t wait for the movie adaptation: *Cybersecurity’s Dumbest: The Ransomware Chronicles.*
In short, the message is clear — if you’re a cybersecurity expert thinking about making some side cash by going rogue, don’t. Because sooner or later, the feds will find your sorry ass, and you’ll look like a complete twat on BleepingComputer.

Reminds me of the time I caught an intern brute-forcing our own admin panel “for research.” Said kid is now “researching” broom closets for a living. Some lessons you learn the hard way, with a painful boot to the career.
