Brazil orders Meta to suspend policy banning third-party AI chatbots from WhatsApp

Brazil Tells Meta to Stop Being a Control-Freak Over WhatsApp Chatbots

So, Meta — the tech overlord that still hasn’t learned how to play nice — decided it was time to flex its digital muscles and ban any third-party AI chatbots from touching WhatsApp. Why? Because apparently, Zuck & Co. think they own not just the app but the goddamn concept of messaging itself. But surprise, surprise — Brazil, in a rare display of government spine, told Meta to take that policy and shove it right back where the sun doesn’t shine.

The fine folks over at Brazil’s national data protection authority (ANPD) basically said, “Oi, Meta, stop being a pack of assholes,” and ordered them to suspend this ban pronto. They’re not thrilled with the idea of Big Tech monopolizing who gets to run chatbots or what kind of AI companies can use on WhatsApp. And let’s face it — Meta’s crying about “user safety” is just corporate-speak for “we want the data, all of it, right now.”

Of course, Meta’s throwing a hissy fit, saying that third-party bots could “compromise privacy and security.” Which is rich coming from a company that’s monetized your dog’s birthday pictures, your mom’s recipe exchanges, and your drunk 3 a.m. texts for the past decade. Brazil basically rolled its eyes and said, “Nice try, dickheads,” and gave them 5 days to comply. Yes, DAYS. Because when a government moves faster than Meta’s PR department, you know someone in the boardroom just spilled their frappuccino.

So that’s where we’re at: Meta, the self-appointed sheriff of the digital wasteland, just got smacked down by Brazil for acting like a paranoid ex who can’t handle anyone else messaging their customers. It’s a glorious little win for AI freedom, and a big fat L for Zuck’s control complex.

Reminds me of that time a clueless manager told me to “limit user scripts for security reasons.” I deleted his login instead. Funny how safe the system becomes when the idiot in charge can’t access it.
