Roblox’s AI-Powered Age Verification Is a Dumpster Fire
Right, so apparently the geniuses over at Roblox decided that instead of properly moderating their online kiddie chaos, they’d shove some half-baked AI system at the problem and call it “age verification.” Brilliant. What could possibly go wrong when you toss a shiny buzzword at a deeply flawed idea? Spoiler alert: everything. Fucking everything.
So this so-called “AI-powered” verification bullshit is supposed to make sure people accessing mature content are actually old enough. But in perfect corporate fashion, it’s about as reliable as a wet paper condom. Users are being told to take selfies and upload IDs, only to have the AI throw a digital tantrum and deny them like a petty bureaucrat on a caffeine high. Some folks pass easily, others get treated like they’re trying to sneak into the NSA. Consistency? Nope, never heard of her.
Meanwhile, Roblox says it’s “protecting community standards” and “ensuring safety.” My ass. What they’re actually doing is harvesting face data from millions of users—yes, including kids—without explaining what the hell they’re doing with it. Privacy experts are ringing alarm bells, players are ranting, and Roblox just keeps smiling that vacant corporate smile like a chatbot with a lobotomy. And to add insult to injury, the AI can’t even properly detect ages—people using pictures of Garfield are getting through while real players are locked out. Top-tier tech right there.
So yeah, congrats Roblox, you’ve somehow managed to make the internet’s babysitting service even more of a clusterfuck. Instead of keeping weirdos out, you’ve built a paranoid face-scanning dystopia that doesn’t even bloody work. Bravo.

Reminds me of the time I wrote a script to auto-lock all user accounts named “Admin” just to stop people from doing stupid shit—ended up locking out the CEO. He screamed, I laughed, the system stayed secure. Everyone wins… sort of.
