OpenAI Throws Cash at Sam Altman’s Next Brain-Tinkering Circus
Oh look, Sam Altman’s gone and found yet another way to wrap his fingers around humanity’s collective neurons — this time by launching some new mind-melding playground called Merge Labs. And guess who’s funding the goddamn thing? That’s right, OpenAI itself, because apparently the only thing better than a tech overlord is a tech overlord funding his own sci-fi fantasy about fusing wetware with software. Lovely.
So what’s the master plan here? Merge Labs wants to hook up human brains with machines, probably to “enhance cognition” or some such buzzwordy horseshit. The goal? Making us “more connected” — as if we weren’t already drowning in enough goddamn notifications to fry our synapses. OpenAI’s investment supposedly ensures this Franken-tech is guided by “ethical AI approaches,” which is tech PR speak for “don’t worry, it’ll only partially take control of your mind.”
Altman’s got a track record for chasing out-there ideas — remember Worldcoin, that gem of a project that literally scanned eyeballs for currency? Well, now he’s moved from eyeballs to brainwaves. Progress, my ass. The suits at OpenAI are apparently thrilled to invest in this brain-fondling venture, because what could possibly go wrong when you combine AI, human consciousness, and a guy who thinks regulation is just an optional checkbox on the road to transcendence?
Honestly, it’s the same damn circus with shinier lights. You’ve got the hype machine, the investors drooling, the privacy advocates fainting, and the rest of us wondering how long till our thoughts have a Terms of Service agreement.

Reminds me of the time I “merged” the office manager’s laptop with a coffee spill just to see if her “human-computer interface” could handle basic rebooting. Spoiler: it couldn’t. But at least her brain didn’t try to backpropagate the error. Yet.
