Microsoft: Some Windows PCs fail to shut down after January update

Microsoft’s January Update Strikes Again: Windows PCs Now Refuse to Die

Oh joy, Microsoft’s done it again. The January Windows 11 update, labeled as KB5034441, has managed to take a system that could at least shut the hell down, and turned it into that annoying coworker who just won’t leave the office no matter how many times you turn out the lights. Users are reporting that after installing the update, their PCs refuse to power off or restart properly — instead, they just sit there like a smug bastard, mocking your authority with that spinning dots “please wait” crap.

Apparently, this latest clusterfuck comes in the wake of Microsoft trying to fix a BitLocker recovery partition error. Surprise, surprise: instead of fixing the original screw-up, the patch just created a new one. Some poor sods are now stuck with systems that can’t shut down unless they jam the power button like medieval torture. Perfect for productivity, right?

Microsoft, in its infinite wisdom, says they’re “investigating” the problem — which, as we all know, translates to “we have no bloody clue, but please stop posting angry Reddit threads about it.” So, if your PC now refuses to die after the update, well, it’s not you. It’s Microsoft. Again. Who knew patching bugs could make things worse? Oh right — anyone who’s ever touched Windows.

Reminds me of the time I “fixed” a user’s unresponsive PC by pulling the power cable and telling them Windows was “performing an integrity check.” They believed me. Idiots.
