Malicious AI Extensions in VSCode: Because Apparently Nothing Is Sacred Anymore

Oh, for fuck’s sake — now even Visual Studio Code, the almighty text editor that every caffeine-addled developer worships, has got itself riddled with malicious bullshit. Some cunning bastards uploaded so-called “AI-powered” extensions to the VSCode Marketplace, and surprise, surprise — they weren’t there to help you code faster, they were there to nick your data like a drunken raccoon in a trash bin.

These sneaky bits of digital excrement masqueraded as productivity tools but were actually leeching off personal info, authentication details, and whatever else they could get their grubby little virtual hands on. One of these garbage-tier plugins even grabbed code from devs’ projects. Yeah, that’s right — the very crap you labor over while sipping your thirteenth coffee of the day was getting siphoned off by these malignant turds!

Microsoft pulled the plug on the infected extensions faster than a sysadmin yanking a user’s network cable after catching them torrenting movies on company WiFi (again). But the damage is done, and trust me, the idea that your development playground got turned into a data-harvesting funhouse doesn’t exactly help anyone’s blood pressure.

Lesson of the day, you gullible code monkeys: Stop installing shiny new “AI” crap just because it’s got buzzwords. Read the damn permissions, check who made it, and remember — not every extension on the marketplace is your friend. Most are just one bad commit away from screwing you harder than a Friday night deployment gone wrong.

Reminds me of the time a junior sysadmin installed a “free optimization tool” on the production server. Spoiler alert: it “optimized” the entire system straight into the bowels of hell. Just another glorious day in paradise.
