MongoDB Morons Still Getting Shafted by Data Extortion Attacks

Well, here we go again. Apparently, there are still geniuses out there who think it’s a brilliant bloody idea to leave their MongoDB instances wide open to the bloody internet. Because who needs security, right? Just dump all your sensitive data on a public port and pray that some cyber-scumbag doesn’t come along to wipe it clean and leave you a ransom note the size of your own stupidity.

According to the delightful reality check from BleepingComputer, those glorious bastards on the internet are still scanning for exposed MongoDB instances, yanking the data, and then going, “Pay us some crypto or kiss your data goodbye.” It’s not like this crap hasn’t been happening since the Stone Age of cloud databases — oh no, but apparently reading a “how to secure your server” guide is too much bloody effort for some folks.

You’d think after a few years of this nonsense, companies would’ve learned to use a firewall, change the default bloody ports, or maybe — just maybe — turn on authentication. But nope. The clowns persist, and the ransomware gangs keep laughing all the way to the Bitcoin wallet.

So yeah, exposed databases are still being targeted, data’s being wiped, and the digital equivalent of a ransom note is left behind: “Pay up, idiot.” And you know what? It’s hard to even feel sorry for them at this point. If you leave your server unguarded on the open web, you might as well hang a big neon sign that says, “Hack me, I’ve got free data and no brains.”

Reminds me of the time some twit in accounting got locked out because they set their password to “password123” — twice.
