Microsoft fixes bug causing password sign-in option to disappear

Microsoft Finally Fixes The Password Vanishing Act – About Bloody Time

So apparently, the brilliant minds at Microsoft managed to cock up the Windows sign-in system so badly that some users woke up one morning to discover their *password sign-in option had just f***ing vanished*. Poof. Gone. Like the last donut in the break room. You couldn’t log in with your password because, well, the box to type it in decided to take a bloody holiday.

After enough confused, caffeine-deprived users screamed on Reddit, forums, and probably at random IT people, Microsoft finally went “oh, right, maybe that’s a problem” and released a fix. The bug hit Windows 10 and 11 machines using the “require Windows Hello for sign-in” setting, which in classic Microsoft fashion defaulted to “let’s break this for everyone!” mode.

The fix, of course, comes draped in the usual corporate “we have identified and resolved the issue” fluff, which is code for, “yeah, we completely faceplanted this one, and someone’s about to have a very awkward performance review.”

To fix it, users had to do a little registry dance or wait for Microsoft to shove the patch down their throats via Windows Update. Because why make anything simple when you can make people fiddle with the registry at 3 AM? Thanks for the heart attack, Redmond.

So yeah, long story short: Microsoft broke passwords (literally), fixed it after people rioted, and now wants a pat on the back for cleaning up its own digital sh*tshow. Classic Microsoft!
