What the Bloody Hell Are Admin Tasks in Microsoft Intune?

Right, strap in, because Microsoft’s Intune “Admin Tasks” are basically Redmond’s way of saying, “Hey, we’ve buried all your management crap under new layers of menus and buzzwords, so good luck, champ.” It’s all about adding *“tasks”* – shiny little shortcuts so admins don’t have to crawl through the labyrinth known as Endpoint Manager just to do the same bloody thing they were doing last year.

Apparently, these new admin tasks let you simplify day-to-day bollocks like forcing device syncs, resetting PINs, and restarting machines. Because obviously, sysadmins love doing that manually for hundreds of users on a Monday morning after a patch reboot throws everything into chaos. These tasks are grouped by categories – user, device, policy, compliance, apps, yada yada – so you can easily find what you need while slowly losing all will to live staring at Intune’s interface.

They’ve even given us a nice way to *delegate* tasks so that lesser mortals – sorry, “helpdesk technicians” – can press buttons without destroying the company’s entire device fleet. You assign permissions to “roles,” define what each muppet can and can’t touch, and then cross your fingers they don’t turn off BitLocker or delete critical compliance policies because they “thought it looked old.” It’s all about “least privilege,” which is corporate for “we don’t trust anyone but we’ll pretend it’s about security.”

Bottom line? It’s Microsoft’s attempt to make Intune less of a flaming dumpster fire for daily management crap. And while it’s *slightly* less painful than before, it’s still wrapped in Microsoft’s usual pile of confusing UI, half-working previews, and the constant joy of remembering which portal you’re supposed to be in. Lovely stuff, really.

Reminds me of the time I gave a junior admin the rights to “just reboot” user devices. Within ten minutes, he’d rebooted every bloody laptop in the building—during a board meeting. Lesson learned: when Microsoft says “delegate tasks safely,” what they mean is “give someone else a button to break shit faster.”
