Senegalese Data Breaches Expose Lack of ‘Security Maturity’

Senegal’s National Biometric Database Gets Shafted – Because Of Course It Did

Right, so apparently Senegal’s shiny “National Biometric Identification System” just got royally screwed over by some hackers. Yeah, the whole bloody database full of fingerprints, facial data, and whatever other biometric crap the government collected is now floating god-knows-where. They didn’t just leave the door open — they left a bloody **welcome mat and a neon sign** saying “come on in!” Jesus wept.

Now, the boffins investigating this clusterfuck are saying it’s a shining example of “lack of security maturity.” Translation: they didn’t secure shit. The system wasn’t properly monitored, there was no effective access control, and probably some intern was responsible for setting passwords like “admin123.” According to the report, the government treated cyber defense like it was optional homework — spoiler alert, it’s not.

So now sensitive biometric data — you know, the stuff you can’t just “reset” like a bloody password — is in the wild. Once that’s gone, you’re permanently screwed. You can’t exactly change your fingerprints, mate. Oh, and if you think this kind of idiocy is unique to Senegal, think again. Half the organizations out there still treat cybersecurity like some optional luxury instead of the bare minimum needed to avoid being featured in headlines titled “Huge Data Breach: Clowns At Work!”

In short: security maturity my arse. They were more like a security toddler — running around naked, playing with firewalls, and wondering why everything’s on fire now.

Reminds me of the time some dipshit exec insisted we “temporarily disable the firewall” to “speed up operations.” Yeah, it sped things up all right — straight to an all-nighter cleaning ransomware out of every corner of the network. Some people just shouldn’t be allowed near power buttons.
