Some absolute helmet working for a defense contractor decided that their salary wasn’t quite enough to cover the new iPhone or whatever midlife crisis garbage they were after, so they thought “Hey, I know! I’ll just flog eight—count ’em, eight—zero-day exploits to Ivan from the Kremlin! What could possibly go wrong?”

Spoiler alert: Everything went wrong, you dense motherfucker.

This numpty had security clearance—actual government trust that they wouldn’t behave like a complete window-licker—and they still went ahead and sold vulnerabilities to a Russian broker like they were trading fucking baseball cards. Eight zero-days! That’s not a mistake, that’s a fucking business plan. That’s “I want a dacha in Sochi” levels of commitment to being a treasonous shitgibbon.

And of course they got caught. Because guess what? When you access classified vulnerability research and then suddenly start making deposits that smell like borscht and Bitcoin, even the most half-asleep security team is going to notice. GCHQ, NSA, or whatever three-letter agency was watching probably had a field day. “Oh look, it’s another contractor who thinks Tor makes them invisible. How cute.”

Now they’re in jail. Good. I hope they enjoy the hospitality of federal prison, where the only zero-day they’ll be worrying about is day zero of their sentence stretching into eternity with a cellmate called “The Wrecker.”
