Seriously? 20 Months For This Moron?
Right, listen up. Some absolute waste of oxygen – a Daniel Vicknock, apparently – just got 20 months in the UK for defacing *three thousand* websites. Three. Thousand. He was doing this crap since he was like, fourteen years old! He used SQL injection and cross-site scripting (XSS) because, you know, basic security is just too hard. Apparently he targeted schools, councils, businesses… basically anyone who didn’t have their shit together.
The judge gave him a bit of a break ’cause he “cooperated” with the investigation and pleaded guilty. Cooperated? He *should* be cooperating with a decent coding tutorial! And 20 months? Honestly, that’s barely enough time to learn how not to be a complete tool. They also confiscated his crypto wallet – good riddance, probably funded by someone’s stolen credit card details.
The whole thing is just… infuriating. People spend years building these sites and some kid thinks it’s funny to scribble “Hacked By…” all over them? And the legal system lets him off with a slap on the wrist? Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic.
Don’t even get me started on the fact that this article makes it sound like he was some kind of sophisticated threat. He wasn’t. He was just lazy and annoying. A script kiddie, pure and simple.
Speaking of pathetic security… I once had to deal with a sysadmin who thought changing the default password on his router was “too complicated.” Seriously. Too complicated. The guy was running a whole network on ‘admin/password’. You can guess how long it took someone to get in. Honestly, sometimes I think humanity deserves whatever digital disasters come its way.
