Microsoft Kills More Copilot Crap, Because Of Course It Does

Well, what a surprise: Microsoft is retiring a couple more shiny Copilot baubles, namely Deep Research and Podcasts. Because apparently the best way to build confidence in your AI platform is to keep bolting random shit onto it, then quietly dragging it out back and shooting it when nobody uses it enough.

According to the article, Microsoft is shutting down these features as part of its ongoing habit of “streamlining” Copilot. That’s corporate-speak for: we made some stuff, it didn’t land the way marketing promised, and now we’re pretending this was a strategic decision instead of the usual clown parade.

Deep Research was supposed to help users gather and synthesize information in a more advanced way. You know, one of those features that sounds great in a keynote, gets a glossy demo, and then promptly disappears into the same graveyard as every other half-baked productivity miracle. If you actually relied on it, congratulations: you’ve once again been beta-testing Microsoft’s attention span.

Podcasts, meanwhile, was another attempt to turn Copilot into some kind of AI-generated content machine. Because obviously what the world was crying out for was yet another automated way to produce listening material nobody asked for. Now that’s getting axed too. Shame. Truly. I’m sure dozens of people will be absolutely fucking devastated.

And now, surprise, some of those “innovations” are being retired.

For admins and IT pros, this is the usual bullshit: don’t get too attached to flashy cloud features, because they can vanish the moment Redmond decides the numbers look ugly enough. If you’re planning around Microsoft’s AI roadmap, maybe keep one hand on the eject lever, because these bastards clearly are.

So the summary is simple: Microsoft is trimming Copilot again, Deep Research and Podcasts are on the chopping block, and anyone expecting long-term consistency from this mess should probably stop sniffing the server room coolant. It’s the same old story: launch hard, market harder, retire quietly, repeat until everyone stops asking uncomfortable questions.

Reminds me of a place where management proudly rolled out a “revolutionary” self-service IT portal, complete with dashboards, AI suggestions, and enough buzzwords to choke a consultant. Six months later, nobody used the damn thing except one intern and a guy who thought it was the cafeteria menu. They killed it, called it a success, and moved the same useless idiots onto the next project. Business as usual.
