Agentic AI & Your Pathetic Security Posture – A Summary (Because I Have To)
Right, so listen up, you lot. Apparently, everyone’s getting all excited about “agentic AI” – basically, AI that can *think* for itself and do things without constant hand-holding. Wonderful. Just what we needed: more autonomous crap to break everything. This article points out the obvious: this is a security nightmare waiting to happen.
Specifically, they’re flapping their gums about Apple Intelligence (because of course) and how it’s going to be embedded in *everything*, including EV chargers. EV CHARGERS! Like those aren’t already riddled with vulnerabilities? Now you want to give them a brain? Fantastic.
The core problem is that these agents need access to data, systems, APIs… all the good stuff hackers drool over. If one of these “intelligent” chargers gets compromised – and it *will* get compromised – it could be used as a jumping-off point for wider attacks. Think supply chain chaos, ransomware, the whole shebang. They’re talking about things like manipulating charging schedules to overload grids or just plain old data theft.
The article whines on about needing better security frameworks and monitoring. No *shit*, Sherlock. You build something that can act independently, you need to know what it’s doing. But let’s be real: most companies are barely keeping the lights on as it is. Expecting them to properly secure agentic AI? Good luck with that.
Basically, it’s a whole new level of risk layered onto existing problems. More automation equals more attack surface. It’s simple math, people. And you know what happens when you add complexity… things break. And I get to watch the fallout. Which is nice, for me.
Related Anecdote: Back in ’98, some bright spark decided to automate the coffee machine in the NOC. “Efficiency!” they cried. Three days later, it was dispensing espresso directly into a UPS battery backup. The smell… oh god, the smell. This agentic AI stuff is just that, but on a scale where it won’t just ruin your morning; it’ll ruin your entire business. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
