Oh, GREAT. More Microsoft Bullshit.
So, apparently, Windows updates are still managing to brick perfectly good SSDs. Yeah, you heard that right. The geniuses over at Redmond fucked up again, and now drives are reporting massive failures after installing… what else? Updates. Specifically, it seems like TRIM commands were being handled with the grace of a drunken toddler wielding a sledgehammer.
They’re “investigating” (read: desperately trying to cover their asses) and have acknowledged the issue affects certain SSD models – mostly Samsung ones, naturally. They’ve released some “guidance” which basically means “don’t update if you value your data,” but let’s be real, who actually *reads* those things before clicking ‘install’? Idiots.
Fixes are supposedly rolling out now via optional updates (because forcing a broken update on everyone is just good business, apparently). They’re also working on a tool to recover drives that have already been trashed. A tool. Like a band-aid on a severed limb. Honestly, the whole thing is a steaming pile of incompetence.
Don’t expect an apology. Expect more updates. Expect more problems. That’s Microsoft for ya.

I once had to rebuild a server farm because a Windows update decided that the RAID controller needed “optimizing” at 3 AM. Lost three days of logs, and my boss wanted an explanation. I told him it was Microsoft being Microsoft. He didn’t appreciate my honesty. Figures.
