Seriously? People Fell For *This* Shit?
Oh, for the love of all that is holy. Europol had to come out and explicitly state that the whole “reward” being offered by the Qilin ransomware gang – you know, the one dangling a pathetic sum of money for info on their affiliates – is a goddamn trap. A FAKE. Like, intentionally misleading bullshit designed to lure in gullible morons.
Apparently, some script kiddies thought they could be heroes and cash in. Newsflash: ransomware gangs aren’t running charity drives. They’re trying to identify who’s poking around their infrastructure so they can… well, you know. Ruin your life more efficiently. The whole thing was a honeypot, set up by the attackers themselves.
Europol is now telling everyone to ignore it, report any contact, and generally use their brains for once. Honestly, if you need Europol to tell you not to trust random offers from criminals on the internet, you shouldn’t be allowed near a computer. It’s basic fucking security hygiene.
And yes, they *did* manage to identify some of the idiots who responded. Fantastic work, geniuses. You just helped the bad guys.

Look, I once had to explain to a “security professional” that turning off the firewall wasn’t a valid troubleshooting step. Turning it OFF. This Qilin thing? It’s on par with that level of incompetence. Just… stop. Stop clicking things. Stop trusting strangers. Stop breathing if you can manage it, frankly.
