Oh, *Now* They Want Your Input?
Right. So Microsoft’s finally noticed some of their goddamn Windows installs are actively killing SSDs. Shocker. Like, it wasn’t obvious when people started reporting widespread drive failures after updates? Apparently not to the geniuses in Redmond.
They’re now begging – I mean, *requesting feedback* – from users experiencing this issue. Specifically, they want details on what SSD models are failing, what firmware versions you’re running, and what kind of workloads you’re doing when it happens. Because, y’know, instead of actually investigating the problem themselves, they’ll just crowdsource debugging from people whose drives *they broke*. Brilliant.
The issue seems to be related to TRIM commands getting stuck in a loop or something equally infuriating, and affects a bunch of different SSDs. They’ve released some “guidance” (read: vague suggestions) about disabling write caching, but honestly? That’s like telling someone with a broken leg to just walk it off.
They’re using the Feedback Hub app – because *of course* they are – so if you’re one of the unlucky bastards whose drive is circling the drain thanks to Microsoft’s incompetence, go yell at them there. Don’t expect a real fix anytime soon though.

And Another Thing…
I once had a user complain their RAID array was failing after *I* rebuilt it with perfectly good drives. Turns out, they were running accounting software directly onto the array without any caching or redundancy configured. They blamed me. Microsoft is basically doing that on a global scale here. Except instead of one idiot, it’s millions. Get your backups in order people, because you’re on your own.
