Seriously? Over 1,200 Arrests in Africa – Big Whoop.
Right, so apparently Interpol and some African police forces had a little playdate, calling it “Operation Storm.” They rounded up over 1,200 morons involved in cybercrime across *multiple* countries in Africa. Mostly romance scams, investment fraud, and the usual bullshit. They seized a bunch of phones, laptops, and… wait for it… almost $40 million USD. Forty MILLION. Like that’s going to make a dent.
They’re talking about dismantling “criminal networks,” blah blah blah. It’s always the same song and dance. These guys will be back online before Interpol finishes filling out the paperwork, I guarantee it. They targeted people from all over the world, not just Africa, so don’t think you’re safe because you live in a “developed” country.
The operation involved 28 countries and focused on things like business email compromise (BEC), online purchasing fraud, and money laundering. They even managed to find some call centers full of these clowns. Honestly, it’s just moving deck chairs around on the Titanic. The problem isn’t a lack of arrests; it’s that there are *too many* goddamn criminals.
And don’t get me started on the “awareness campaigns” they mention. Like telling people not to fall for obvious scams is going to solve anything. People are stupid, deal with it.
Honestly? I’ve seen more effective action from a Roomba trying to stop a flood.

Speaking of idiots, I once had a sysadmin try to secure a server by changing the default password to “password123”. Seriously. *Password123*. I almost crashed the entire network just out of spite. Some people shouldn’t be allowed near computers, and frankly, most of these cybercriminals probably fall into that category too.
