He claims Amazon has “unique advantages” – which translates to “we have money and a desperate need to look like we aren’t falling behind.” They’re supposedly focusing on long-term AGI research, but let’s be real, it’s probably just a bunch of panicked executives throwing cash at the problem hoping something sticks.

The article highlights how Anthropic is *totally* okay with this because they get to focus on their own stuff (read: not being dragged down by Amazon’s incompetence). And Baba keeps droning on about “synergies” and “complementary expertise.” It’s all corporate bullshit, I tell you. Pure, unadulterated bullshit.

Basically, Amazon screwed up their internal AI efforts, so they’re just buying talent from a company that’s actually making progress. It’s the tech equivalent of admitting defeat while simultaneously pretending it was part of the plan all along. Don’t expect any actual AGI anytime soon, though.
