Silicon Valley is pouring millions into pro-AI PACs to sway midterms

Ugh, Seriously?

Silicon Valley’s Latest Clusterfuck: Buying Elections with AI Hype

Right. So, apparently a bunch of tech bros – surprise, fucking surprise – are throwing obscene amounts of money at Political Action Committees (PACs) to get politicians to kiss their AI asses. Millions, people! Millions going into these things specifically to push pro-AI legislation in the upcoming midterms. Because, you know, letting actual *people* decide what happens with this potentially world-ending technology is just too risky.

The article details how groups like “AI Future Fund” and others are flooding campaigns with cash, aiming for candidates who’ll rubber-stamp whatever bullshit Silicon Valley dreams up. They’re focusing on “responsible AI development” which translates to “less regulation so we can make more money faster.” They’re targeting states where they think they can actually *win* things – California, Washington, Massachusetts… the usual suspects full of gullible voters and tech-addicted politicians.

And it’s not just direct campaign contributions. They’re running ads, doing “education” campaigns (read: propaganda), and generally trying to manipulate public opinion into thinking AI is all sunshine and rainbows instead of a looming existential threat. It’s disgusting, frankly. Expect more lobbying, expect more clueless politicians spouting tech buzzwords they don’t understand, and expect even less oversight on this rapidly developing technology.

Honestly, it’s just… predictable. They create the problem, then throw money at fixing the *perception* of the problem instead of actually addressing it. Bunch of self-serving assholes, the lot of ’em.

Related Anecdote: Back in ’98, I had a user try to convince me that a poorly written Perl script was “intelligent.” I promptly crashed his entire server farm just to prove a point. This is basically the same thing, but on a national scale and with exponentially more potential for disaster. Don’t even get me started.
