Trump Wants to Rebrand AI and Build an “AI Force,” Because Apparently Reality Wasn’t Stupid Enough
So here we fucking are. According to TechCrunch, Trump floated the idea of giving artificial intelligence a shiny new name because, presumably, “AI” isn’t patriotic, loud, or ridiculous enough for the branding department in his skull. At the same time, he says he’s creating an “AI Force,” which sounds less like serious technology policy and more like a shitpost that escaped into government.
The basic mess is this: Trump is talking about AI not as a complicated, rapidly evolving field that needs careful regulation, investment, expertise, and maybe one adult in the room, but like it’s a campaign slogan waiting for a flag decal. Rebranding AI is the kind of empty nonsense management loves — if the system is confusing, don’t fix it, just slap a different label on it and act like you invented electricity. Brilliant. Absolutely fucking brilliant.
Then there’s the “AI Force” idea, because apparently every modern concept now has to sound like a branch of the military or a straight-to-streaming action movie. The article frames this as part of Trump’s broader push to sound aggressive and dominant on tech, but beneath the bluster there’s the usual problem: naming something is not the same as understanding it. You can scream “AI Force” into a microphone all day, but that doesn’t magically produce infrastructure, researchers, policy coherence, or any clue what the hell you’re doing.
TechCrunch’s point, underneath all the noise, is that this is another example of AI being dragged into political theater. Instead of discussing the very real stakes — jobs, misinformation, power concentration, national competition, safety, and whether these models are being run by competent people or caffeinated goblins — the conversation gets hijacked by branding bullshit. Because of course it does.
And that’s the punchline: AI is one of the most consequential technologies in the world, and somehow we’re stuck listening to whether it needs a cooler fucking name and a more chest-thumpy rollout. That’s like responding to a server-room fire by arguing over the font on the warning label. Peak idiocy. No notes, except maybe “stop.”
Anecdote time: this reminds me of a manager who once declared our catastrophic backup failure would be solved by renaming the archive server “Phoenix.” It still exploded, the restore still failed, and he still acted like the issue was morale. That, in a steaming nutshell, is what this whole thing smells like.
