TechCrunch Wants *You* To Do Their Work For Them.
Oh, joy. TechCrunch Disrupt 2025 is looming, and surprise, surprise, they don’t want to handle all the event planning themselves. This article is basically a begging plea for startups and other…enthusiasts (read: suckers) to organize “side events” around their main conference in San Francisco next September. They’re looking for everything from mixers to workshops – anything to fill the dead space *around* the stuff they’re actually getting paid to do.
Apparently, if you have a decent idea and can foot the bill (because TechCrunch isn’t offering much help, naturally), you can apply. They’ll give you some visibility on their website… which is great, because that’s totally worth spending thousands of dollars on, right? They want applications by October 18th, so get cracking if you enjoy wasting your time and money.
The whole thing reeks of “let other people build the ecosystem around our cash cow.” Don’t expect a ton of support. Expect to be a promotional tool for TechCrunch’s main event. And probably some logistical headaches. You’ve been warned.
Seriously, I have seen more useful things come out of a broken toaster oven.

I once had a sysadmin try to convince me that *he* needed funding for a “user group” meeting. Turns out, it was just him wanting free pizza and bragging rights. This is basically the same thing, but with more venture capital hopefuls. Don’t fall for it.
