Vocal Image is using AI to help people communicate better

Vocal Image: Another Fucking AI “Solution”

Seriously? Vocal Image. Ugh.

Right, so some company called Vocal Image thinks they’ve solved communication problems with – you guessed it – MORE AI. Apparently, this thing analyzes your voice and tells you how “perceived” you are. Like we don’t already have enough insecurity shoved down our throats? They claim it helps people be more “effective” communicators by flagging things like monotone delivery or… *checks notes* …not sounding enthusiastic enough.

They’ve got funding, naturally. Series A, because apparently VCs are just throwing money at anything with “AI” slapped on it these days. They’re targeting sales teams and customer service reps – basically people who already have to fake enthusiasm for a living. Now they can *also* get judged by a robot about it? Fantastic.

The core idea is some sort of “vocal fingerprint” thing, comparing your speech patterns to… what? Some idealised sales drone? It’s all based on data from successful people, so basically you’re being told to sound like someone else. They also have a feature that gives real-time feedback during calls – because nothing says “genuine connection” like a computer whispering in your ear about your tone.

And of course, they’re talking about “emotional intelligence” and “reducing bias.” Oh, *sure* it is. Just another way to standardize human interaction into something bland and utterly soulless. Don’t even get me started on the privacy implications. They are recording your voice, analyzing it, and storing…something.

Honestly, I’m starting to think Skynet was onto something.

Speaking of communication failures, I once had a user try to explain network topology using only interpretive dance. *Interpretive dance*. I nearly crashed the entire system out of spite. This Vocal Image thing? It’s just a slightly more sophisticated form of that same level of pointless frustration.
