Microsoft now enforces MFA on Azure Portal sign-ins for all tenants

Microsoft’s Latest “Brilliant” Idea

Seriously? MFA for *Everyone* in Azure.

Oh, joy. Microsoft, in their infinite wisdom (read: after countless breaches and hand-holding from security folks), has finally decided to enforce Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) on all Azure portal sign-ins. Yes, you read that right. ALL tenants. Even the ones run by people who probably shouldn’t be allowed near a toaster oven, let alone a cloud service.

They’re rolling it out in phases, naturally – because chaos is apparently part of their deployment strategy. If you haven’t been forced yet, consider yourself temporarily lucky. It starts with Global Admins and then trickles down to everyone else. They claim this is about security, which is just *shocking*. Like locking the barn door after all the horses have bolted.

The good news? It’s supposed to be relatively painless if you’ve already got MFA set up. The bad news? If you haven’t… well, buckle up buttercup. You’re gonna need an authenticator app and a whole lot of patience dealing with Microsoft’s documentation (or lack thereof). They *say* there are exemptions for break-glass scenarios, but knowing Microsoft, those will be a pain in the ass to get approved.

Basically, they’re forcing everyone to do what they should have been doing all along. It’s less “proactive security measure” and more “damage control after years of negligence.” Don’t thank them; just make sure your users are prepared for a headache.

Speaking of MFA headaches, I once had to walk a VP through setting up Google Authenticator… on his *fax machine*. No, seriously. He thought it was some kind of new paperclip dispenser. The level of technical illiteracy is astounding sometimes. Makes you wonder how these people manage to tie their shoes.
