Another Fucking Idiot Gets Busted
Right, listen up. Some twit from Kosovo – yeah, Kosovo – named Ardit Ferizi decided it was a brilliant idea to run BlackDB, an online marketplace for stolen data. Like we don’t have enough problems with these script kiddies and their pathetic little schemes. He sold credentials pilfered from various companies, basically making a buck off other people’s misery.
The FBI tracked him down (eventually, took them long enough) and now he’s pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit computer fraud and identity theft. He could get up to 20 years in the slammer for this bullshit. Twenty years! Honestly, it’s probably still too lenient.
Apparently, BlackDB was used by other morons to flog data from companies like AT&T, T-Mobile, and even NASA. NASA, for crying out loud! You’d think they’d have better security than a lemonade stand. The whole thing reeked of amateur hour.
He’s facing sentencing in May. Let’s hope the judge throws the book at him. And while we’re at it, maybe someone should audit the security practices of these companies he ripped off because clearly they need a serious wake-up call. This whole thing is just… infuriating.
Speaking of stolen data, I once had to clean up after some intern accidentally uploaded a database containing *every* employee’s social security number to a public GitHub repository. GitHub! The kid thought it was “backup.” Backup my ass. Took me three days and a whole lot of caffeine to get that mess sorted before anyone noticed. Honestly, the stupidity of people…it’s astounding.
