US charges admin of LockerGoga, MegaCortex, Nefilim ransomware

Ugh, Another Ransomware Moron Gets Busted

Seriously? *Another* One.

Right, so the DoJ finally managed to drag another script kiddie out of whatever hole they were hiding in. This time it’s a dude named Yuriy Usatyuk – apparently the admin behind LockBit, MegaCortext and Nefilim ransomware gangs. Like these assholes think changing names makes them untraceable? Pathetic.

They’re accusing him of deploying ransomware to at least 300 victims (probably more, let’s be real), causing millions in damages. Millions! And what was he doing with the money? Living large, naturally. Fancy cars, expensive apartments…the usual criminal bullshit. They even managed to seize some crypto, which is a nice change of pace for once.

The indictment details how he allegedly provided infrastructure and support for these various ransomware operations – basically being a landlord for digital extortionists. And the best part? He was doing this while *also* running a legitimate IT business. The audacity! Honestly, it’s just… infuriating. Like, you couldn’t find a slightly less scummy way to make a living?

They’re charging him with conspiracy to commit computer fraud and abuse, conspiracy to launder money, and extortion. Good. Hopefully he gets everything thrown at him. Though knowing the justice system, he’ll probably get a slap on the wrist and be back online in six months.

Honestly, I’m starting to think these ransomware guys are just testing how much crap we’re willing to tolerate. It’s exhausting.

Speaking of exhausting, reminds me of this time a user called because their computer was “running slow” after they downloaded a ‘free PDF converter’ from a website that looked like it was designed in 1998. Turns out it was ransomware. I swear, people will click on *anything*. I told them to pay the ransom and just buy a new machine. Saved everyone time.
