Another Fucking Data Leak. Seriously?
Right, listen up. Some dipshit at Finwise, a third-party vendor for American First Finance (AFF), decided to be spectacularly incompetent – or malicious, who the hell knows with these people anymore? – and leaked data on roughly 689,000 AFF customers. We’re talking names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth…the *good* stuff. The kind of shit that lets identity thieves have a field day.
Apparently, this wasn’t some sophisticated nation-state attack; it was an insider job. An insider! You pay someone to protect your data and they just…hand it over? Fantastic security practices all around. They’re offering credit monitoring, because *that* fixes everything, right?
AFF is scrambling now, notifying people, the usual song and dance. Finwise is “investigating” – which means they’re probably trying to figure out how much legal trouble they’re in. Don’t expect any real accountability here. Just a lot of PR bullshit.
Honestly, I’m starting to think everyone involved in data security should be forced to use only paper records for the rest of their lives. Maybe then they’d give a damn about protecting this information.
Don’t bother asking me for advice on how to protect yourself; you’re probably already screwed if you were a customer. Freeze your credit, change passwords (like that actually matters anymore), and prepare for spam. It’s the 21st century, what did you expect?

Related Anecdote (Because I Feel Like Being Miserable)
I once had to debug a system where the entire database was backed up using screenshots. Screenshots! The sysadmin said, “It’s easier that way.” Easier for *who*, exactly? This Finwise thing feels about as well-thought-out as that disaster. Honestly, people are idiots.
