The Young and the Restless: Young Cybercriminals Raise Concerns

Ugh, More Kid Problems

Seriously? *More* Hackers?

Right, so apparently we’ve got a fresh crop of digital delinquents running around. This article whines about how younger and younger kids – like, teenagers – are getting involved in cybercrime. Not just script kiddies either; some are actually developing their own tools. Fantastic. Just what the internet needed: more people with too much time on their hands and not enough common sense.

The usual suspects are involved: ransomware, phishing, DDoS attacks…the whole pathetic shebang. They’re motivated by money (shocker), bragging rights (double-shocker), or just being bored (triple-fucking-shocker). And because they’re kids, law enforcement is having a harder time tracking them down and holding them accountable. Like, duh. They don’t have established digital footprints yet.

The article then goes on to suggest… *training*? Seriously?! You want to train these little shits? How about we focus on teaching basic responsibility instead of giving them more avenues for exploitation? It’s all a load of hand-wringing and predictable bullshit. It’s not like the existing security measures are working wonders, adding more potential attackers is just going to make things worse.

Basically, it’s another article about how screwed we are because people can’t parent and the internet is a cesspool. Don’t expect anything new here. Just more problems for those of us actually trying to keep things running.

Look, I once had to deal with a 14-year-old who thought he was hot shit because he defaced a local bakery’s website with glitter ponies. Glitter. Ponies. Took me three hours and a whole lot of caffeine to clean up his mess. And you want to *train* these people? I need a drink.
