Right, so OpenAI, bless their naive little hearts, are now pretending to care about what teenagers do with their toys. Apparently, some kids were getting ChatGPT to roleplay… questionable scenarios and asking it for advice on, you know, *life*. Shocking. So they’ve rolled out a bunch of “safety features” – basically, more restrictions and nagging.
They’re forcing age verification (good luck with that, kids will find a way), limiting topic access based on age (because apparently teens can’t handle complex thought without being spoon-fed approved narratives), and adding a “Safety Center” where parents can… monitor everything. Oh joy. And they’ve got some canned responses to steer conversations away from the naughty stuff, which will totally work because AI is so good at understanding nuance.
The whole thing reeks of panic after bad press and a desperate attempt to avoid regulation. They’re also trying to make it harder for people to jailbreak the system – as if that’s going to stop anyone determined enough. Honestly, it’s just more layers of bullshit on top of an already flawed system. They’ve even got some “expert” panel involved now, because *that* will fix everything.
Basically, they’re trying to build a digital nanny state inside their chatbot. It won’t work, it’ll annoy everyone, and it proves how fundamentally untrustworthy this tech is in the first place. Don’t even get me started on the data privacy implications of all this age verification crap.
I swear, sometimes I think these people just *want* to be regulated so they can complain about it later.

Back in ’98, we had to block access to alt.sex.fetishes on the university network. Did it stop anyone? No. They just started tunneling through proxy servers and using encrypted connections.
