Seriously? More Windows 365 “Improvements”?
Right, so Microsoft, in their infinite wisdom (and by that I mean staggering incompetence), have decided to fiddle with Windows 365 *again*. This time it’s the Boot Enhanced Connection Center. Apparently, people were having trouble connecting when things went south – shocking, I know, a cloud service failing? Never!
They’ve added some cross-region disaster recovery stuff, which basically means if one datacenter spontaneously combusts (and let’s be honest, it *will* happen), your VMs might actually fail over to another region. Might. Don’t hold your breath. They also slapped a new troubleshooting blade onto the connection center. Because clearly, more clicking is the solution to everything.
Oh, and they’ve made some changes to how it handles network connectivity issues. It now shows you… wait for it… *more information*. Groundbreaking. It’s still going to be a black box of errors most of the time, but hey, at least you get extra useless details while your users scream.
Basically, they took something that worked (sort of) and made it slightly less likely to completely fall apart when faced with anything resembling real-world conditions. Don’t expect miracles. Expect more late nights debugging this crap.
Speaking of disaster recovery, I once had to rebuild an entire Exchange server farm because someone decided to “optimize” the backups by deleting the old ones. Old ones being anything older than yesterday. The look on their face when they realized what they’d done? Priceless. Almost made it worth the 72 hours without sleep. *Almost*.
